Illustration Friday: Clique

"The bullies lifted their eyes and gaped at it. Then one of them suddenly had a clothespin squeezed on his nose. It closed his nostrils so he had to open his mouth to breathe. “Ow!” he cried. And then the other ten had clothespins on their noses too. “Ow!” they all cried together." (From the book Spots becomes a World Champion by Evald Flisar, illustrated by me)

Illustration Friday: Detach

The above watercolour was made early this summer, during a stay in a Bosnian raft camp, rather detached from civilization. Taking along drawing kit to such a place is advisable thing to do, otherwise you can end up playing parlour games all day long ... (not that there's anything wrong with that, but doodling is more fulfilling anyway:-)

European movies dare to ...

This idea was created by Primoz and me in november 2007 at Kalidays festival - it won the 1st place at the Start Smart Copy and Art workshop led by dutch creative team Martin Mol and Jos van der Lee. Here you can see them talking very nicely about our work! Anyhow, our task was to create a billboard, which would attract viewers to visit European film festival at Slovenian Cinematheque. Later on, I came up with some visual solutions for the slogans and two of them were realized in form of Feliks cards (free promo cards). Here is the first one:
It says "European movie dares to be cheap" and it made it's way to the finale of Magdalena Festival last week. The second one says "European movie dares to ------- the hero" and unfortunately it didn't made it to the finale of Magdalena:
The third one was even less fortunate: not only that it didn't made it into finale, but it was never printed as well ... It says "European movie dares to show MORE":
Euroteka festival began in january and it will end next month, so I guess this is a conclusion of our idea as well.

Illustration Friday: Multiple

I'm painting these turtles since 1997 - for no particular reason. No. 1 is in Australia - it migrated there with Nadja and her family. 4 and 6 are hanging on the wall of Renata's living room in Slovenia. No. 7 is in my aunt's kitchen in Croatia - it was made for my cousin's 10th birthday. 2, 3, 5 and 8 are standing upon our bookshelf at home. There are at least 20 other turtles here and there - 12 of them went to a traveling exhibition ten years ago and never returned back ...

Illustration Friday: Blanket

"However, once in bed, he felt overcome by a deep sadness. He was the world soccer champion, but what could he do with that? Without the hippityhopsters, everything seemed pointless. In the falling evening light, when Spots was already certain he’d seen the last of them, the faces of the hippityhopsters suddenly glowed above the bedside table. They winked at him happily. “Cool!” he exclaimed. “Are you going to stay with me?” They jumped up and formed the following words in the air: WE WOULDN’T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY!" (From the book Spots becomes a World Champion by Evald Flisar, illustrated by me)

Workshop: Venetian Masks

Center Evropa – Ljubljana team invited me to guide their Venetian Masks workshop. We did the casting ourselves a few days earlier - quite successfully. Participants continued the process by painting and decorating the masks - quite successfully as well. A few glimpses caught on my camera:

This was caught on the Studio Delo's camera (no, I don't feel uneasy in front of it;-).
